Download the software
Before you start this process, you need a ArcGIS Student Trial 1-year license code.
- If you are a University of Connecticut (UConn) student, email Rich Mrozinski ([email protected]) to request a 1-year student license code. All requests must come from UConn email address.
- If you are not a UConn student, I recommend you contact your regional ESRI office (https://www.esri.com/en-us/contact).
Follow the steps below to install, authorize, and start the license manager: Run the License Manager setup from your My Esri software download or from the ArcGIS installation media. Follow the instructions to install the license manager and FlexNet licensing service. At the end of the installation, ArcGIS License Server Administrator appears. How do I install and authorize the software?
Follow these steps to installArcGIS 10.x for Desktop:

- If you do not currently have an earlier version of ArcGIS installed on your machine, proceed to step 2.If you have ArcGIS version 10.1 or later installed, you do not need to uninstall it before installing version 10.7.1; the ArcGIS setup package will detect and upgrade your ArcGIS for Desktop software. If you have ArcGIS version 10.0 or earlier installed, please uninstall it using the Uninstall Utility (download below) before installing ArcGIS 10.7.1.
- Download ArcGIS for Desktop, Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, and the other files you would like to install. Please note that ArcGIS Data Interoperability, ArcGIS Data Reviewer, and ArcGIS Workflow Manager require ArcGIS for Desktop.
- When downloading with the Esri Download Manager, you can select and download multiple products. However, only one product should be launched at a time when the downloads are complete.
- Make sure you have write access to your download directory location as well as your ArcGIS installation directory location, and that no one is accessing it.
- Install the Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 below.
- ArcMap requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7 or newer. Before running the installation program for ArcMap, ensure that your machine meets these prerequisites. - Install and authorize ArcGIS for Desktop
- Select a destination folder to extract the install files to. If you choose, you can automatically launch the setup after the files have been extracted
- When prompted, select ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced Single Use.
- When prompted, accept the default, I do not wish to authorize any extensions at this time. The extensions will be authorized automatically.
- Enter your authorization number.
Follow these steps to authorizethe software:

If you installed the software but did not authorize it, follow these steps:
- From the Start button, run the ArcGIS Administrator. Select Desktop from the left-side menu.
- Select ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced (Single Use), and click Authorize Now.
- Verify the software you selected is listed at the top of the box. Click OK.
- Select I have installed my software and need to authorize it. Click Next.
- Select Authorize with Esri now using the Internet. Click Next. If you do not have an Internet connection on the computer you intend to install the software on, you can authorize the software using another computer that has Internet access or via e-mail.
- Enter your personal information (2 panels). Click Next on both.
- When prompted, accept the default, I do not wish to authorize any extensions at this time. The extensions will be authorized automatically.
- Enter your 12-character authorization number (EVAxxxxxxxxx), and click Next.
- After the authorization process is complete, click Finish. Authorization typically takes between 30 seconds and 2 minutes.
- Click OK to close the ArcGIS Administrator. The software is ready to use.

The license manager allows you to install ArcGIS for Desktop and on as many machines as you want. The number of licenses purchased determines the number of users who can run the products simultaneously. You can purchase licenses for Advanced, Standard, and Basic.
The license manager can be installed on a machine where ArcGIS Concurrent Use versions will be run or on a machine where only the license manager will be installed. Other ArcGIS installations will define that license manager after the installation process.
To install and authorize your license manager, you will need to use the authorization information that you received by email from Esri Customer Service when you purchased your product.

The License Manager communicates through TCP/IP, which must be installed and functioning properly on any Windows license server. TCP/IP requires either a network card, along with its drivers, or the Microsoft Loopback Adapter installed on your Windows workstation.
Note:
- If you have an existing license manager that is not an ArcGIS 10.3.1 License Manager, you must uninstall the existing license manager and install the ArcGIS License Manager for ArcGIS 10.x installations to access.
- The ArcGIS License Manager supports all ArcGIS for Desktop 10.x and 9.x releases.
How to install the license manager

To install only the license manager, follow these steps:
- Log in as a user with administrative privileges.
- Close all applications on your computer.
- Choose the license manager option from the download menu. The license manager option starts licensesetup.exe.
- Follow the instructions on the screen. The ArcGIS License Manager provides you with the ability to choose where you want to install the license manager. On Windows, the default installation location is C:Program FilesArcGISLicense10.3. On UNIX and Linux, the default installation location is $HOME/arcgis/license10.3.
- Once you have completed the license manager installation, you can use the ArcGIS License Server Administrator to authorize licenses for the license manager.
Click Authorization in the table of contents and click the Authorize Now button to launch the Software Authorization Wizard.
- Follow the instructions on the dialog box to complete the authorization process.
- Click Finish to close the wizard and return to License Server Administrator.
Once you have completed the license manager installation, you can supply the license manager information to those users installing ArcGIS for Desktop. They can browse to this network license manager when prompted for the license manager machine after their ArcGIS for Desktop installation.
