Pale Moon is a customised version of Firefox, which has been carefully optimised for speed and efficiency.
The program has been made more lightweight, for instance, by stripping out little-used components like the accessibility features, and the parental controls. The crash report has also been stripped out, as it's designed to work with server-side technology that isn't available on palemoon.org. And Pale Moon also drops support for Internet Explorer's ActiveX and ActiveX scripting technology, which also offers a security benefit as it means the browser can't be infected by malicious ActiveX controls.

Other optimisations are more technical. In particular, Firefox is compiled with the most conservative of settings, to ensure that it'll run on even ancient CPUs. Pale Moon, though, is optimised to take full advantage of modern processors, and this can give it a huge advantage over Firefox in some areas.

Proving that open source leads to great development, Pale Moon takes the already decent Firefox web browser and makes it even better and faster.
Pale Moon is a free and open web browser on the layout and rendering engine Goanna. It is optimized for usage on modern processors which includes a number of enhancements over the traditional set of browsers many are used to.
Though Pale Moon used to be heavily based on Mozilla's Firefox, it has since come a long way by developing its in house Goanna layout engine. From what we've seen, it adheres to web standards without a hitch.
With support for themes and layout customization, it's quite possible to have the browser looking the way you want it. Furthermore, several options are available from the Preferences to set different levels of security by blocking addons, password management (protected by a master password), HSTS, HPKP and an optional do not track setting.
Pale Moon supports the W3C Media Source Extensions and playback for MP4 and WebM video can be toggled.
Web Developer Tools are a great set of options for those developing web sites with a Inspector, Web Console, Debugger, Style Editor and more. Additional addons for developers can also be downloaded from Pale Moon's site through the menu system.
