Several Mega Man titles were released for the personal computer (PC) over the years. This is a listing of all games currently available, along with many details for each title. You'll also find some information on how to buy them, although some titles have gotten difficult to find over the years. As a general hint, if you don't mind bidding on auctions, you could do some nice finds on eBay.

Mega ManReleased in 1990 | Official descriptionNot available System requirementsNot available Known releases
My commentsThe first Mega Man game on the computer isn't a port of the NES title: it's a brand new game, although not an extra good one: the graphics, music and controls are pretty bad. This was the first third-party Mega Man game ever, made by Hi Tech Expressions. The game came on floppy disks, in both 5 1/4' (remember those?) and 3 1/2' format. Where to buyThe game is long out of print, obviously. Your only luck for finding it comes from eBay, where it shows up from time to time. |

Mega Man 3Released in 1992 | Official descriptionIt's three times the thrills.. three times the action.. three times the fun. It's MEGA MAN 3! Legions of once peaceful robots have been mysteriously transformed into a horde of humanity-hating berserk droids! Nobody is safe - least of all Mega Man. Armed with every android-annihilator ever invented, they're determined to reduce the super-powered cyborg into a heap of radioactive waste! Can our hero outfight, outwit and 'out-robot' the robots? Will Mega man pulverize powerful robot-maniacs? Or will he meltdown? It's all up to you, as you join the battle in Mega Man 3. System requirements

My commentsApparently, Mega Man 2 was skipped for some strange reason.. Just like Mega Man (1), this title doesn't have any link with the NES version. The graphics were slightly better than the first, but the game was still far from being up par with the NES games. As it was the case with the previous title, the game was available on floppy disks in the 5 1/4' and 3 1/2' format. There has also been a CD-ROM release as part of a compilation of older Capcom games. Unconfirmed reports also mention a stand-alone CD-ROM version. Where to buyAgain, this game is pretty old, but it can be surprisingly easy to find. It's available pretty often on eBay, and it can also be bought directly from this online store. |

MM2: The Power FightersReleased in 1996 | Official descriptionThe sequel to Mega Man: The Power Battle, the Power Fighter featured new enemies, new powers and a new playable character. Square off against Dr. Wily's deadly robot masters and steal the powers of defeated enemies to boost your own abilities. System requirements

Mega Man XReleased in 1995 | Official descriptionNot available System requirements

My commentsThe first X game for the PC is a port from the SNES version. While the graphics and levels are the same, the music suffered from a bad conversion to MIDI and the controls aren't perfect. Since it's a DOS game, it's a bit harder to get it to run on today's computers. Where to buyThis game is also available on eBay, and is relatively easy to find. Many of the auctions bundle the gamepad that was available for free along with the game back when it was in stores. If you want to try it, head over to the downloads section to get the shareware demo! |
Mega Man X3Released in 1996 | Official descriptionAlert! Alert! The Doppler research reploid has inspired a revolt in DopplerTown. The Maverick virus has broken through the Doppler anti-virus, and it appears Doppler has caused it. All previous postings here about the anti-virus are incorrect. The anti-virus is a placebo. REPEAT: The anti-virus is a placebo! DopplerTown is over-run with Mavericks. Utopia has ended before it even started. Take cover quickly. Virus is spreading rapidly. Cain Laboratory is being infiltrated. Maverick Hunter Units on FULL ALERT. Mega Man X and Zero.. mobilize! Grave Danger! System requirements

My commentsThe PC version of Mega Man X3 shows how a port to a more powerful system should be made: the original graphics and controls have been kept, while the music was fully remixed and new video cutscenes were added to replace some of the older static sequences. This is about the same version as what came out for the Playstation. Where to buyThe physical version of this game (on CD) is difficult to find. Buy-and-download versions have also been taken offline in the past few years. Alternatively, a pack including Mega Man X3, X4 and X5 was released by KOKOCapcom (Capcom's Korean division) as a two-disc pack. In this collection, both X3 and X4 are in English while X5 is in Korean. It shows up on eBay fairly often, and is sometimes available for purchase on this page on Play-Asia's site. |
Mega Man X4Released in 1997 | Official descriptionNot available System requirements
Known releases
My commentsMega Man X4 had a direct port to the computer with close to no changes: the graphics, music and gameplay are all identical to the original Playstation version. If you don't have a Playstation and can find this game, don't hesitate about picking it up! Where to buyThe only way that I know of to purchase this game is through the Mega Man X3, X4 and X5 pack, although it used to be available separately. See the Mega Man X3 buying tips for more info. |
Mega Man X5Released in 2002 | Official descriptionIt's AD 21XX and peacetime. The chaos of the Reploid Wars has passed. But wait! A band of cyber-radicals has just hacked into Eurasia's artificial gravity device. And now, this gravitation deprived space colony is spinning out of control.. on a collision course with Earth! Solution: collect the parts of the beam cannon Codename Enigma, get it restarted and deploy it, within the next 24 hours. Your every move counts. Quick! Join Mega Man X and his comrade Zero as they race against time. Eradicate the evil threat occupying Eurasia and prevent total annihilation of Earth. System requirements
Known releases
My commentsJust like X4, Mega Man X5 received a direct port to the PC platform: the result here is a game as solid as it is on the Playstation. There's a patch available to fix some bugs in the game. Get it from the downloads section! Where to buyThe only option currently available, besides eBay, is through a pack containing Mega Man X3, X4 and X5 was released some time back. See the Mega Man X3 buying tips for more information. |
Mega Man X6Released in 2004 | Official descriptionNot available System requirements
Known releases
My commentsMega Man X6 was released for the PC as well, although not in America (at least yet): the only existing release is by KOKOCapcom (Capcom's Korean division). The in-game dialogue is all in Korean, without any option to switch to English. The system requirements are much higher than those for X4 and X5, and the game apparently suffers from some conversion flaws: for example, the gameplay is sped up and the display flickers more than in the original. There are rumors about a release in Europe, but this has yet to be confirmed. There are no news from the Japanese and American sides. Where to buyAmong other places, the game can sometimes be purchased from Play-Asia for a fair price. |
Mega Man X7Released in 2005 | Official descriptionNot available System requirements
Known releases
My commentsThe PC port of Mega Man X7 slipped under the nose of many fans, as it came out only in Korea as far as I know. That's why you might have never heard of it. There's no English language option, so that alone might be enough to make several fans back off from this game. This is a direct port, with none of the changes that might have been appropriate: there's no PC controller support, no choice of screen resolution (the only available one matches a TV screen, which is low-res compared to a modern PC game), and not even a menu item to leave the game is present (Alt-F4 works). It also crashed on me a few times, although I wouldn't call it unstable. KOKOCapcom issued a patch for the game, which you can get in the downloads section. Where to buyThis title, even if it's more recent than others, can be difficult to track since it received a smaller release than Mega Man X8. |
Mega Man X8Released in 2005 | Official descriptionNot available System requirements
Known releases
My commentsIn a surprising move, a trial for the PC version of Mega Man X8 came out even before the full game was released. The full game feels very much like a native PC game instead of the Playstation 2 port that it really is. The Japanese version happens to include both Japanese and English modes, the latter turning the game in the whole 'Mega Man' experience (voices and text included). The English version has the Japanese voices available as well, but the text is only found in English. The Korean edition happens to have both voice sets, along with the text in Korean, English, and a few European languages. Where to buyThe game was available in physical stores only in China, Korea, Japan, and Europe. Because of the ability to switch everything in English, this title is an interesting one to import even though it's a bit pricey. You can sometimes find it through some online import stores, like Play-Asia. You might want to get the Japanese or Korean versions: the Chinese one does NOT include the option to switch to English! |

Mega Man Legends combines the best of classic Mega Man action with enormous bosses, a riveting storyline and all the depth of the hottest RPG. Explore vast 3-D worlds in your quest to find the treasure of all treasures, the Mother Lode. You'll love the 3-D graphics, deadly weapons and non-stop action.. unless of course, you're a boss. My commentsThe first game in the Legends series received a port to the personal computer as well. Since this is the only 3D game of the set besides X8, graphic improvements were easier to do and produced better results: the game in general looks slightly better than its Playstation brother. Where to buyNo known source. |
The following online stores usually have in stock at least one of the Mega Man games listed on this page. You can find specific buying info along with each title in the previous list, but you might be able to do extra finds by looking directly at those sites:
Some other games were released for the computer as well, but don't be fooled: those are either compilations done by other groups, or are pirate games: titles such as Rockman Strategy and others are not done by Capcom or aren't licensed, so I'm not covering those here.
